The Holy Crusade

Comment by Larry Ross, January 14, 2006

There are over 14,000,000 results on Google searching under "How Dangerous Is George Bush?"
This is an excellent demonstration showing that so many people know he is extremely dangerous and state why.

In a nutshell, it is because Bush claims it is America's duty to rid the world of terrorist evil. He defines his motives as good and God-approved. Those against him are evil and with the terrorists. Any crime is permissible in Bush's holy war on anything he proclaims as terrorism. In-betweens are not tolerated.

Bush needs no advice and none is sought except from his appointed cronies and neo-con strategists who will say yes to whatever he wants. In practice, there are no other views worth listening to and God tells Bush what's right and what's wrong.

Believing God is on his side, whatever he does, he can't lose.

The author of the article below, has not covered the threat of Armageddon theology, which teaches that a nuclear war could be likened to the Armageddon promised by God in the Bible. This belief is particularly explosive because it portrays nuclear war as God's promised Armageddon and therefore sanctioned. Millions of American Fundamentalists believe this is so and they unreservedly support Bush. Nuclear war is not something to be feared as bringing on an end to humanity and civilisation.

It is something to be welcomed because Fundamentalists believe it is God's will and that God is in charge. True believers will be 'raptured' to heaven and non-believers will be enveloped in hellfire and damnation.

We haven't much time left to try and save the world from a religiously besotted tyrant. Can he be replaced in time, or will the insanity of one man prevail on earth.? It is up to readers to decide what, if anything, can be done.

Naturally international law is no restraint to Bush who claims to believe he is doing God's work. Bush is also using God as an excuse to justify whatever he wants to do and whatever crime he and his administration commit.

Of course, in reality, the ruthless aggression of the American policy makers is the prime source of terrorism and the rest of the world, seeing it coming, is labelled terrorists for resisting and rebelling.

Dangerous Religion

By Jim Wallis,   September - October 2003

Religion is the most dangerous energy source known to humankind. The moment a person (or government or religion or organization) is convinced that God is either ordering or sanctioning a cause or project, anything goes.
The history, worldwide, of religion-fueled hate, killing, and oppression is staggering.
—Eugene Peterson (from the introduction to the book of Amos in the Bible paraphrase The Message)

"The military victory in Iraq seems to have confirmed a new world order," Joseph Nye, dean of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, wrote recently in The Washington Post. "Not since Rome has one nation loomed so large above the others. Indeed, the word 'empire' has come out of the closet."

The use of the word "empire" in relation to American power in the world was once controversial, often restricted to left-wing critiques of U.S. hegemony. But now, on op-ed pages and in the nation's political discourse, the concepts of empire, and even the phrase "Pax Americana," are increasingly referred to in unapologetic ways.

William Kristol, editor of the influential Weekly Standard, admits the aspiration to empire. "If people want to say we're an imperial power, fine," Kristol wrote. Kristol is chair of the Project for the New American Century, a group of conservative political figures that began in 1997 to chart a much more aggressive American foreign policy (see Project for a New American Empire). The Project's papers lay out the vision of an "American peace" based on "unquestioned U.S. military pre-eminence." These imperial visionaries write, "America's grand strategy should aim to preserve and extend this advantageous position as far into the future as possible." It is imperative, in their view, for the United States to "accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles." That, indeed, is empire.
